A narrow elongated boat with peacock head on one side and a tail on the other end. The boat depicts the immersion procession of Goddess Durga into the river Ganga during Durga Pooja (Bengal). The entire procession is intricately carved with minute details. The boat is supported by a small pedestal.

  • Socio economicThe Ivory and Wood craft industry dates back to the time when the Nawabs of Bengal had their court at Murshidabad. As the industrywas fully dependent for its prosperity on the support of a luxurious court and wealthy noblemen, it had to face crisis when the Nawabs lost their power and their court disappeared. During the early part of British rule, the ivory carvers of Murshidabadf were also praised by colonial powers and found some amount of patronage.
