The first model which was designed earlier was much thinner than what is available currently and was also known as "Chappal with ears" or "Kanwali" for it had two side flaps. The upper portion of the footwear was intricately designed with Zari.
- ArtisticThe famed handcrafted footwear known as Kolhapuri Chappal was first created in the Indian state of Maharashtra town of Kolhapur. Vegetable dyes are used in the tan process to create these handmade leather shoes. Not only are the classic styles of Kolhapuri footwear well known in rural Maharashtra, but they are also becoming more and more well known worldwide. But, the Kolhapuri isn't just associated with Kolhapur; it's also known by several names depending on where it was made, including Kapashi, Paytaan, Kachkadi, Bakkalnali, and Pukari.
